Disable Autoplay option in windows

Sunday, January 10, 2010

There are many people, who are afraid of inserting a pen-drives or a CDs from an insecure source because of the autorun virus. Now you don't have to worry about it. You just have to disable the autoplay feature of windows.

To do so follow some simple steps :

  • Go to the Start menu, then click on Run and type "gpedit.msc" (without quotes)

  • A new Group Policy window will pop up like this one below

  • In the left side of the window, expand the Administrative Templates tree and select System

  • Now on the right side of the window, you'll see an option of Turn off Autoplay

  • By clicking on it, a new window will pop up like the one below

  • Select the Disable button and click Ok

  • And if again you want to enable the autoplay, just follow the same steps as above instead of the last one where in place of Disable, select Enable button
